Yih-Wei is focused on developing international healthcare markets, specifically in Asia and within the medical device sector. In his first summer with the Erb Institute, Yih-Wei served as a Climate Corps Fellow for the Environmental Defense Fund where he designed a strategic employee engagement behavior change plan for J.C. Penney Company, Inc. Based in Singapore for 13 weeks, Yih-Wei spent his second summer designing and executing an in-depth market assessment of the Southeast Asia region for Abbott Vascular’s endovascular product portfolio. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, Yih-Wei spent six years in the San Francisco Bay Area working as an Analytical Chemist in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. At ALZA Corporation, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, Yih-Wei performed laboratory experiments designed to ensure the safety and efficacy of three marketed pharmaceutical drugs. He then transitioned to Genentech, Inc. where he developed new manufacturing processes for Pulmozyme, a protein therapeutic used to treat patients with Cystic Fibrosis. Yih-Wei is an avid basketball player, speaks Mandarin Chinese fluently, and graduated from the University of Michigan with Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Economics.
