Kathleen Judd leads the Buildings & Connected Systems Group at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The group conducts applied research to advance the energy and water efficiency and resilience of buildings through innovation in building design, evaluation, operations, and integration with the grid and distributed energy systems. As Group Leader, Kathleen is responsible for shaping PNNL’s commercial buildings research strategy, overseeing advanced buildings research and test facilities, recruiting, supporting the professional development of the group’s 80+ engineers, scientists, and support professionals, and representing PNNL’s buildings research capability inside and outside of PNNL. As a research project lead, Kathleen works with federal agencies on methods on building and site performance evaluation methods the energy and water efficiency and resilience. Through her research, she emphasizes the integrated role of technology, institutional policy, and individual behavior in advancing sustainability goals.
