Jake Swenson is the Director of Sustainability for Staples, where he leads all sustainability-related programs for the company. Important areas of focus for Jake are ensuring customers can easily find and shop for more sustainable products, working to identify new product opportunities to fill assortment gaps, and helping Staples’ large organizational customers implement sustainable procurement programs and track progress against those programs. He also manages Staples sustainability goal setting and reporting, electronics recycling programs, and stakeholder engagement related to environmental topics. Finally, Jake collaborates with internal teams to help support and track key performance indicators related to energy, carbon, and waste reduction programs.

Jake has worked for Staples for 13 years in a sustainability role. Prior to joining Staples, Jake worked in environmental consulting, where he focused on environmental policy analysis and program management for federal agencies, including U.S. EPA. Jake is a dual MBA/MS graduate of the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan. He received his BA in Politics from Princeton University. Jake lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two daughters.
