Samuel Talsma

Erb Fellows, Class of 2022

Major: Cognitive Science
Minor: Environment

Sam studies Cognitive Science and Sustainability and is passionate about better understanding the intersection of climate change, social justice, sustainable systems and how the study of human cognition can be used to create actionable plans for individuals, organizations, and nations to promote environmental justice and build systems that are sustainable for peoples, places, and Earth as a whole. He serves as the President for the University of Michigan Rotaract Club and spends his free time backpacking, reading, and running. Sam is also researching how mealworms can play a key role in the mitigation of the negative effects of plastic pollution by eating styrofoam; a project funded by a grant from the Graham Sustainability Institute.
