Lyle Rubin

Lyle Rubin came to Michigan by way of the Marine Corps, academia, and healthcare operations. He served as a platoon commander in Afghanistan, earned a PhD in history at the University of Rochester, and worked as a professional writer and author for a number of years. He started at Ross with the Tauber Institute and joined Erb as a midyear because the problems he cares about most sit at the intersection of business and sustainability. At SEAS he specializes in Sustainable Systems. His Tauber project took him to Vertiv, where he and a teammate built a planning tool linking data center demand to the technicians who start up and maintain its power and cooling equipment. He also founded Motor City Commons, a stewardship holding company that acquires succession-risk manufacturers in Southeast Michigan and transitions them to worker ownership. His career interest is industrial decarbonization, with data center decarbonization as a likely concentration. Lyle is Co-President of the Energy Club, and outside class he runs, birds, hikes, kayaks, and co-hosts the Bang-Bang podcast.
