Carissa is passionate about designing more sustainable food systems and improving small-scale farmers’ participation in the global agricultural value chain. This interest grows out of her interactions with subsistence farmers in the Amazon rainforest and Andes Mountains of Ecuador. Carissa spent five years as Ecuador country manager for Partners Worldwide, an international nonprofit organization for economic development. In this role, she coached local institutions on their strategy to support small and medium enterprises through business training, mentoring and lending. Carissa studied economics and international development at Calvin College. In her free time, she enjoys running, ultimate Frisbee, basketball and cooking.
