World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Senior Program Officer (SPO) who will support the day-to-day implementation of WWF’s corporate and sub-national climate work, with a specific focus on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), environmental justice, and just transition through our leading multi-stakeholder climate partnerships: America is All In (“All In”) and the Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC). With guidance and support from the Director, US Climate Policy Action and the Director, Climate and Renewable Energy, the SPO will support All In and RTC’s external community and stakeholder engagement. The SPO will also support implementation of intentional strategies to strengthen the diversity of stakeholders within the two partnerships and equity within the programmatic strategies of the two initiatives.
- Leads elements of the day-to-day engagement by All In and RTC with external stakeholder groups with a particular focus on building and maintaining key relationships across the environmental justice community, the labor and worker community—from grassroots to state and national levels. Towards this end, the PO also serves as one of WWF-US’ voting representatives within the US Climate Action Network (USCAN).
- Supports the day-to-day engagement by WWF-US in multi-stakeholder climate partnerships, primarily All In and RTC.
- Leads the management, communications, and planning of the RTC’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) Advisory Committee.
- Manages the day-to-day engagement by WWF-US with country offices and international program teams within the WWF Network on DEI, environmental justice, and Just Transition issues related to the renewable electricity and renewable thermal energy transition. Supports sharing of DEIJ lessons learned from All In with other Alliances for Climate Action.
- Conducts research and develops briefing materials and other products in support of the partnerships’ work. Keeps abreast of developments related to DEI, environmental justice, and Just Transition in the climate and energy space, including key, policy and regulatory developments, corporate actions, and activities by NGOs and other stakeholders.
- Represents WWF-US in external engagements with businesses, governments, civil society organizations, policy roundtables such as the US Climate Action Network, and cities and other non-state actors to advance WWF US climate & energy strategy.
- Contributes to the development of WWF-US strategies, work plans, and budgets, primarily related to strengthening diversity and equity and promoting environmental justice and just transition through All In and RTC.
- Plans and oversees high quality projects to ensure they are completed in a timely fashion and within budget.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, identifies funding opportunities, cultivates donors, and, in cooperation with the Development Team at WWF-US, prepares funding proposals and reports to donors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- An undergraduate degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 6 years of professional experience required; OR an advanced degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience required
- Preferred knowledge would include the areas of DEI, environmental justice, just transition, energy transition, energy policy at the state and federal level.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience with community and stakeholder outreach and engagement.
- Candidate should be a “bridge builder” who can be a constructive facilitator among different stakeholders while dealing with difficult and acrimonious issues
- Additional subject expertise in one or all the following climate and energy sub-fields is an added asset: renewable electricity policy, carbon markets, corporate climate strategy, sustainable supply chain management, carbon accounting, climate economics, and international climate finance.
- The ability to work easily with and communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and representing a variety of stakeholder groups is essential.
