Overview

The Senior Analyst, Government Affairs – Sustainability, is part of a new cross functional undertaking embedded in the Government Affairs operation with a dotted line to Sustainability. This position will support the newly created role of Vice President, Government Affairs – Sustainability, in the development and alignment of issue advocacy across international, federal, state and local climate policies, playing a key role in executing the company’s sustainability strategy in a constantly evolving policy and regulatory environment.

Delta is accelerating its efforts to build a more sustainable and people-first culture by being a voice of leadership on climate policy issues now and in the future. This role will help support alignment between our climate goals and our climate lobbying activities.

Responsibilities

  • Draft detailed policy memoranda and talking points for senior Delta executives in advance of meetings with policymakers and strategic third-party stakeholders, such as NGOs and investors
  • Develop timely analysis on public policy developments impacting Delta’s sustainability and climate strategy
  • Conduct large-scale data research and analysis efforts using Delta systems and external sources to build supporting arguments for regulatory filings, legislative proposals and presentations before policymakers;
  • Partner with sustainability and communications team members on messaging and narrative development before diverse policy audiences
  • Participate in meetings with policymakers, NGOs, trade associations, industry partners and other strategic stakeholders to advance the company’s sustainability goals and priorities
  • Engage with trade associations and other membership organizations to track and provide visibility into climate policy developments
  • Prepare presentations, materials, and memos to support sustainability policy objectives and strategies
  • Stay informed and report on emerging sustainability policy trends, standards, and issues that may impact the business and wider aviation industry
  • Attend hearings, briefings, seminars, coalition meetings, and other strategic events and provide reports/read outs
  • Compile, draft and edit weekly/monthly updates on global sustainability efforts and activities and complete other administrative tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Sustainability-related experience and/or knowledge of climate change, clean fuels policy, ESG, and corporate strategy trends, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government, NGO and diverse industry stakeholders (airline, manufacturing, oil/gas, renewables, agriculture, etc.).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the global political landscape and policy development processes and procedures across intergovernmental organizations and bodies, such as the United Nations (UN) and the specialized International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the domestic congressional, legislative, regulatory and inter-agency processes coupled with an understanding of the dynamic state and local legislative processes.
  • Must have strong PowerPoint and Excel skills, with the ability to create and edit executive level presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience with Adobe Illustrator or other graphic design software strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills, presentation skills, written and oral communication skills, positive attitude and able to manage change successfully in a fast-paced, collaborative and team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated passion for influencing and advancing thought leadership in the following areas: sustainability strategy, innovation, decarbonization strategies and technologies, fuels policy as well as equitable climate policies.
  • Must be strategic, dynamic, systems-thinker, detail-oriented and independent while still operating successfully in a team environment.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking and styles.
  • Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Proven data analysis abilities and demonstrated understanding of Delta’s operation, business and sustainability strategy.
  • Degree in environmental science/policy/management, sustainability, political science, public policy, international affairs, business, communications, or related field.
