Project Drawdown is a nonprofit organization that seeks to help the world reach “Drawdown”— the future point in time when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline. Since the 2017 publication of the New York Times bestseller Drawdown, the organization has emerged as a leading resource for information and insight about climate solutions. Cities, universities, corporations, philanthropies, policymakers, communities, educators, activists, and more turn to Project Drawdown, as they look to advance effective climate action. We aim to support the growing constellation of efforts to move climate solutions forward and move the world toward Drawdown—as quickly, safely, and equitably as possible.

Project Drawdown is hiring a full-time (100%) Operations Associate—a back-office generalist to help us be a great place to work. This position will work across multiple areas of our operation in support of finance, HR, recruiting, and other administrative and organizational functions. This role will also help support our organizational culture – stewarding team-building, collaboration, and coordination of an all-remote team – and help accelerate DEIJ efforts across the organization.

The Operations Associate will report to the Director of Operations at Project Drawdown and have opportunities to engage throughout the organization. As a small organization with a big mission, we’re seeking someone who is comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously in an unstructured environment, and can help us work effectively together to grow our impact.

HR / Finance / Operations Administration (~50%)


  • Support monthly financial close process, including corporate credit card program
  • Support semi-monthly payroll process including expense reimbursements, and time off tracking
  • Process vendor invoices for payment


  • Support annual audit, benefit renewals, and policy / handbook update processes
  • Support our recruiting efforts, including job posting, targeted direct outreach, interview coordination and candidate communication
  • Manage, track, and process agreements with freelancers / contractors (including requests for W-9s, invoices, etc.)


  • Work with Program Directors and Executive Director to track and report the outcomes and impact of all of our work
  • Respond to external email inquiries, including speaker requests and media inquiries, and triage and route request as appropriate to internal resource at Project Drawdown
  • Support quarterly Board of Directors meetings
  • Other administrative tasks as requested

Organizational Culture, Team-Building, and DEIJ (~50%)

  • Identify and implement ways to support meaningful connections and engagement among our remote team, and champion a positive culture at Project Drawdown
  • Participate in and coordinate internal DEIJ committee, including managing meeting schedules, agendas, minutes and follow ups
  • Coordinate internal and external DEIJ engagements (internal training, committee meetings, communication with external consultants, etc.)
  • Help plan and manage logistics for staff retreats, professional development opportunities, and other programming
  • Help develop and implement employee recognition and professional development programs
  • Manage and create opportunities to celebrate staff (i.e. work milestones etc.)


Education and/or Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a finance, hr, or administrative / operations support roles, preferably in a smaller organization
  • Background in climate change or sustainability is helpful but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or other relevant field preferred

  • Background in climate change or sustainability communications is helpful but not required


This is a full-time (100%) position with benefits. The salary range for this position is $55,000-70,000 / year. Benefits are included with this position. We work hard to ensure our salaries are competitive with similar leading nonprofits in major cities across America. In addition, Project Drawdown provides exceptional benefits including 4 weeks PTO (plus 6 sick days, 13 holidays, and a paid holiday closure December 26–30), health/dental/vision insurance premiums 100% paid for the employees, and matching 401k.
