Overview: 

Patagonia Provisions is seeking an experienced and proven Head of Operations to lead and manage our operations people, suppliers, and resources, particularly in the areas of co-manufacturing, warehousing, order fulfillment, distribution, freight, shipping, and environmental impact. You will be instrumental in (a) developing and overseeing our Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reduction plan, and (b) leading our efforts to create foods with industry-leading environmental impact. Roles/Responsibilities: 

Environmental Impact

  • Be the point person in the purpose-driven effort by Patagonia to transition farmland to Regenerative Organic Certified practices.
  • Lead initiatives to minimize the environmental footprint of our operations, with a focus on (a) reducing waste, energy consumption, and emissions, and (b) regenerating healthy soils and restoring healthy oceans.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement environmentally responsible packaging and shipping solutions.

Co-Manufacturer Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with co-manufacturers to ensure the production of high-quality, low impact products in line with Patagonia Provisions’ standards.
  • Collaborate with co-manufacturers to implement innovative and environmentally responsible manufacturing practices.

COGS Reduction Plan

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reduction plan, identifying opportunities to increase operational efficiency and reduce production costs.
  • Continuously monitor and report on progress towards COGS reduction goals.

Food Safety

  • Ensure that our food safety standards are met by all products and all co-packers with whom we partner.
  • Create guidelines for an innovative supply chain that aligns with alternative Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) standards distinct from those applicable to new products.

3PL Management

  • Work closely with our senior operations manager to oversee third-party logistics providers to optimize distribution and warehousing operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery to our customers.
  • Develop and maintain performance metrics to track the efficiency and sustainability of 3PL services.
  • Reduce warehousing related chargeback costs.

Inbound Freight Costs and Outbound Shipping Costs:

  • Work closely with our senior operations manager to strategically manage inbound and outbound transportation costs, seeking opportunities to reduce expenses while maintaining product quality, delivery timelines and service level to our customers.
  • Implement practices to reduce the environmental impact of our transportation processes.

Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of experience in operations and supply chain management leadership roles in branded CPG food businesses sold DTC and in national grocery stores.
  • Material experience from a growth-stage business, including leadership through moments of change and uncertainty.
  • Confidence in making decisive choices which demonstrate an agile business approach and inclination towards action.
  • Proven experience managing operations teams.
  • Proven experience establishing and managing co-manufacturers and 3PL relationships.
  • Experience in developing and implementing COGS reduction plans leading to significant and measurable margin growth.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with CPG environmental impact, and demonstrable track record and commitment to sustainability and environmentally responsible business practices.
