Overview

Ascend is looking for talented college students to intern on the following three teams:

  • Renewable and battery project finance consulting
  • Computer programming/software development
  • Economic research and power price forecasting

As a Renewable Energy Analyst intern at Ascend, you will use analytics to support energy decision analysis in resource planning, renewable generation, energy storage, market forecasting and/or risk management for electric utilities and other energy industry clients. Type of Work

  • Performing quantitative analysis that combines technical considerations, economic factors, market rules, and regulatory/policy developments
  • Assimilating complex information into readily understood reports and presentations
  • Performing in-depth research on energy policy and market rules
  • Performing in-depth analysis of power market operations and data
  • Analyzing power market supply and demand fundamentals
  • Devising new approaches to represent results that provide support for decision analysis
  • Communicating results and modeling approaches to clients
  • Providing clients with web-based software training
  • Optimizing internal project workflows
  • Building analytical tools using Excel and Python/R to assist in market forecasting and analytical activities

Preferences

  • Passion for creating analytical solutions for the energy transition
  • Strong quantitative background (such as a major in economics, computer science, physics, engineering, or energy systems)
  • Preference for some economics, programming and statistical coursework, level dependent on focus area
  • Great teamwork skills. Our projects are all collaborative and we highly value communication
  • A high degree of ownership and commitment
  • Strong academic performance (GPA 3.4 or higher)
  • Desire and willingness to spend the summer in Boulder, CO
  • Proactive, can-do attitude
