Location: Long Island NY or Remote, U.S.

Overview: 

The Director of Product will be working in close collaboration with the VP, Data & Insights, Director of Engineering, and other Data & Insights staff and contractors to advance the mission of ReFED.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strategic product leadership and engineering experience who is passionate about applying their skills to reduce food waste, mitigate climate change, and halt food insecurity. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, which may include a mix of skill sets, such as strategy, product scoping, development and management, research, people management, engineering, and visual design.

Roles/Responsibilities:

  1. Product Strategy and Ownership: Set vision and strategy and product priorities for ReFED’s Insights Engine and the organization as a whole; Develop and implement a product roadmap for key products within the Insights Engine in collaboration with Data and Insights, Capital, Innovation, and Engagement, and Business Services teams; Conduct user research, develop product specifications, and translate feature requirements that the engineering team can build against.
  2. Team Leadership and Management: Collaborate with the engineering team; Participate in hiring, training, and performance evaluation processes for staff.
  3. Technical and Product Development: Develop comprehensive product roadmaps, outlining future features, goals, and milestones; Translate complex ideas into actionable plans for the engineering team; Offer hands-on support in developing wireframes, user journeys, personas, and other UX/UI components; Prioritize engineering and product initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  4. User Research: Conduct or oversee user research to gather insights and inform product development; Train/assist junior staff to design and execute user research projects independently; Hire and manage research consultants when necessary; Develop appropriate documentation to convert user research into an actionable product roadmap.
  5. Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the key liaison between technical teams, executive leadership, and external stakeholders; Communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences effectively.
  6. Advance ReFED’s Mission: Embody and contribute to ReFED’s mission catalyzing the food system toward evidence-based action to stop wasting food.
  7. Collaborative Problem Solving: Participate and lead team discussions and brainstorming sessions to address product and technical challenges and ideate on new features or improvements.
  8. Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the product space to ensure ReFED remains at the forefront of technological advancements in the sector.
  9. Performing other duties as required by the role and department such that they are consistent with the job purpose.

Qualifications:

You could be a great candidate for this role if you have:

  1. 10+ years of experience in product management or leadership roles, with a proven track record of successful product launches.
  2. Direct experience working with engineering teams and in technical project management.
  3. Strong background in user experience research and product scoping.
  4. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  5. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal abilities.
  6. Experience in developing product strategies and roadmaps.
  7. Knowledge of UX/UI design principles; visual design skills are a plus.
  8. A strong commitment to the mission of ReFED, focusing on catalyzing the food system toward evidence-based action to stop wasting food.
