The GSB seeks a Corporations & Society Initiative Director reporting to faculty directors and the director of the Research HUB, to help enable and empower the GSB community and all citizens to be active participants in the collective effort of effective governance. The Initiative focuses on raising awareness and promoting critical engagement on how to create and maintain trust and accountability in institutions in the private and public sector and ensure that they serve society’s interest. We foster big-picture thinking that spans academic disciplines, and bring together and combine expertise from business, government, media, and academia to deepen our understanding of the challenges and to find workable solutions. This is a two-year fixed-term position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement programs and activities to inform and educate leaders and the public by working with faculty and GSB administration to present high-quality research and policy analysis and generate informed discussion of the interaction between corporations and society and how well-designed policies can enable corporations to serve society best.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of interdisciplinary seminars and discussion series with speakers drawn from academia and the private and public sectors who bring diverse perspectives and expertise and engage students and faculty.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of conferences and other events on important topics such as transparency, the workings of legal systems in the corporate context, political engagement by corporations, accountability, disclosure rules, and related issues.
  • Provide expert guidance and consultation to GSB faculty members for providing sound analyses to inform the design and enforcement of effective policies to ensure that markets and corporations serve society.
  • Lead in creating and disseminating policy comments, commentary, blog posts, and other materials to ensure maximal reach and impact through GSB and other channels.
  • Lead in efforts to partner and collaborate with related programs and activities at GSB, elsewhere at Stanford, and beyond.
To Be Successful In This Position, You Will Bring:
  • Advanced degree in at least one of the following: law, public policy, or a business-related discipline and five years of relevant experience in area of specialization or combination of relevant education, training, and/or experience working in business, policy, or media.
  • Advanced oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in an area of specialization.
  • Documented experience and passion in pursuit of the stated mission of the initiative.
  • Experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.
  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.

Preferred Requirements

  • Prior experience working in academia and/or directly with academic professionals.
  • Proven relationship-building across business, government, and/or media.
