Location: Oakland, CA or remote

Overview

GreenBiz Group is a fast-growing media and events company that accelerates a just transition to a clean economy. Through events that galvanize, stories that amplify, and peer networks that bond, we define markets and advance opportunities at the intersection of business, technology, and sustainability. We are a passionate team of people that builds and empowers communities to confront the threats of climate change and solve the thorniest challenges of our time.

We’re looking for a Circularity Analyst to support GreenBiz’s strategic growth in the emerging circular market.

  • Your primary focus will be helping to build the program for the Circularity conferences (next is June 5-7, 2023 in Seattle), the largest circular economy conference in the US. Building on the success of a sold-out 2022 event, Circularity 23 will bring together more than 1,000 thought leaders and practitioners across industries and functions to accelerate the circular economy.
  • You will also support relevant content development for GreenBiz’s other annual events, GreenBiz and VERGE, as well as maintain ongoing partnerships and communications outside of these convenings.
  • As we are building our GreenBiz Circularity Network (GBCN) for corporate practitioners, this role will also support meetings and communications with these customers.
  • This role will report directly to the VP & Senior Analyst, Circularity, and will work collaboratively with members of the content, marketing, design, and sales teams.
  • Future growth opportunities include covering specific circularity topics (plastics & packaging being at the top of the list) in GreenBiz newsletters, on the greenbiz.com website, and in other external forums.

Overall compensation (base salary + discretionary bonus or commission if sales) for this role will be provided commensurate with years of experience and qualifications within the following range: $90,000 – $120,000 plus health and wellness benefits.

Responsibilities

As the Circularity Analyst, you will:

  • Support the development and execution of GreenBiz’s conferences: Circularity and GreenBiz (circular economy track).
  • Confirm, track and communicate with speakers. This includes reviewing inbound speaker nominations for Circularity and GreenBiz events, and identifying and extending outbound invitations to prospective speakers.
  • Research and track circular economy trends, initiatives, commitments, and collaborations to identify topics to feature in our conferences and online editorial coverage, plus help the entire team keep a finger on the pulse of this emerging industry.
  • Identify areas for audience development and cultivate strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders to expand GreenBiz’s reach.
  • Coordinate with the sales team to thoughtfully engage event sponsors in our conferences.
  • Coordinate with marketing and design teams to ensure aligned communication strategy. Manage website updates of speakers, sessions, and programs to ensure external communications align with internal progress.
  • Prepare presentations for external meetings and speaking engagements.
  • Respond to inbound inquiries and stakeholder questions.
  • Attend industry events, as-needed.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A Fantastic Communicator: You have an impeccable ability to speak and write clearly, thoughtfully, and effectively. This role is both external and internal-facing, so you feel comfortable speaking with everyone, from your teammates at GreenBiz to corporate executives speaking at our events. You believe deeply in the importance of transparent and honest communication. You always follow up and follow through on your word.
  • Diligent and Detail-Oriented: You feel comfortable managing many moving pieces simultaneously, shifting from confirming a speaker for Circularity to emailing with an external partner about a workshop to collaborating with the internal design team on a mailer within a fifteen-minute period. Your organization and systems are infectious, and raise the bar for those around you. You believe magic is in the details; so-so is not good enough.
  • An Independent Problem-Solver: You are a self-starter who can figure anything out. You are excited to learn things you don’t know and do whatever it takes to get the job done. You also know how to ask for help when you need it.
  • Solutions-Oriented Skeptic: You are a critical-thinker and don’t take things at face-value. You ask hard questions to push us all forward, not to put anyone down.
  • A Dot-Connecter: You like to network, meet new people and draw connections between everything and everyone. You are excited to drive collaboration between teams at GreenBiz, between partners, or among speakers. Intellectually, you can draw connections between trends and proof points from across industries.
  • Technologically Adept: You feel comfortable using Google Sheets, Slides and Docs, Microsoft Office software, Airtable, ClickUp, Salesforce, and Marketo — or are willing to learn new platforms and systems that you don’t already know.
  • A Good Teammate: You show up with empathy, humility, and curiosity. You are not the type of person who says, “That’s not my job;” your motto is “How can I help?” Your intent with all your work is to create a positive impact — for our audience, your team members, and the industry as a whole.

A deep circularity expertise is not required for this role, but some understanding is necessary. This position is ideal for someone looking to learn and grow with and within the emerging circular economy market. The ideal candidate would have prior experience in the plastics and/or packaging space and would also be excited about learning other facets of the circular economy to support the team.

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required for this role and two years of relevant experience is preferred.
