Lucky Abraham
MBA/MS Program 2013

Lucky is interested in both corporate environmental strategy and the development of clean technologies. Prior to Erb, Lucky was pursuing a career in eco-friendly product design. Realizing the need to address the issue of sustainability on a much larger scale, Lucky decided to return to her business roots. Before her foray into the design world, she worked in international asset management. First, as an equity analyst for Prudential Financial’s first emerging markets fund where she covered the regions of Eastern Europe, Middle East, and South Africa. Then, as an associate for PRICOA Capital Group, the international investment arm of one of the leading US investors of private capital. She would like to leverage her financial experience with her creative inclinations to help commercialize and scale clean technologies. Lucky graduated with honors from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.Sc. in Economics with concentrations in Finance and Strategic Management. In her free time, Lucky enjoys film and music, preferably of the independent kind, but her real passion is traveling and exploring the world, especially to obscure places with impossible views.
Jenna Agins – Resume

Jenna joined the Erb Institute to focus on social intraprenuership, marketing and organizational change. She would like to use her marketing, influencing and communication skills as a change agent within a healthcare organization, building corporate sustainable strategy and growing green operations and employee initiatives. She finds that the values that underscore both sustainability and healthcare are complementary, but understands that many healthcare companies, in particular hospitals, overlook these areas in favor of only patient care. She sees this as a trade-off that does not need to be made. Prior to joining Erb, she spent four years working at a boutique financial services public relations firm. More recently, she was a marketing intern in US Virology at Bristol-Myers Squibb working on an HIV medication and served as a student strategy consultant for Medtronic Diabetes. Jenna received her BA in English from Washington University in St. Louis.
Rajat Bhatia – Resume

Rajat has over over nine years of private sector experience in services operations, entrepreneurship, business process management and corporate strategy. He spent five years in the process services sector in India where he managed complex engagemens for US based clients. He took a break from corporate sector to cofound his entrepreneurial venture wherein he marketed, and consulted on, a Balanced Scorecard based corporate performance management software developed by a US firm. He subsequently reentered corporate world to work in the Business Process Management division of a large consumer retail firm and was later promoted to work in their corporate strategy division. He has always been passionate about sustainability related causes. He has a keen interest in renewable energy, particularly solar energy, and has studied the subject at a premier energy institute in India. He is excited to be a part of the Erb community and is looking to further augment his knowledge and experience to ultimately transition into renewable energy finance or sustainable finance.
Maureen Bossi – Resume

Maureen is interested in how the relationship between government and business will impact the future of sustainable business practices. She believes that the vast majority of companies will only implement a sustainable, forward-looking plan if they can remain financially competitive at the same time. The kind of level playing field necessary to inspire significant change can be established through policy reform and implementation. She intends to bolster her business experience with her coursework in not only environmental studies but also in areas including law, politics, and policy analysis. Prior to Michigan, Maureen worked in private investment management and compliance for five and a half years at HighVista Strategies, an investment firm located in Boston. She received her BS in Finance and International Business from the University of Maryland. In her free time Maureen enjoys watching and participating in sports, cooking, and traveling.
Martha Campbell
MBA/MS Program 2013

Martha is extremely interested in closed loop production processes specifically through the lens of how to blend economic development with ecological and social regeneration. Martha Campbell is originally from the wild west border town of El Paso, Texas, where she was born and raised and very acutely became aware of the base of the pyramid. Martha went on to receive her B.A. in International Relations and Economics from Stanford University in 2002 after which she directly joined the banking world taking a financial analyst position on Goldman Sachs’s Equities Program Trading Desk. After deciding to leave Goldman in 2004, Martha became an avid snowboarder, exploring much of Australia and parts of South America. It was during these travels that she became introduced to sustainable architecture and design and began her journey into all things “green,” taking on positions ranging from a field organizer for Repower America to pounding tires as an intern for Mike Reynold’s Earthship Biotecture constructions. During her first year of the Erb program Martha was selected as a Wyss Scholar and over the summer assisted the Erb Family Foundation in developing a robust public/private partnerships strategy for them as well as their grantees.

Antonia came to the Erb Institute wanting to join her interests in transportation energy and business to provide solutions for sustainable mobility. She's particularly interested in how technology, consumers, and policy interact with business decisions to address global sustainability concerns. During the Summer, 2011, she interned at Johnson Controls Power Solution Division in Milwaukee where she conducted the first ever life-cycle analysis of their battery products. She received her BS in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan. Prior to returning to UofM, Antonia worked in the biochemical manufacturing industry and started a small business in Ann Arbor. Along with being a car enthusiast, loving to travel, and eating cultural food, she sings with the University Musical Society's grammy-award winning Choral Union and has performed on stage with Michael Buble.

Kara is interested in engaging mainstream Americans in environmental solutions, products and services. Before coming to Michigan, she worked at an environmental nonprofit, ecoAmerica, that used engagement marketing and strategic partnerships to broaden the base of support for environmental issues. Her experience there illustrated the need and opportunity to connect with people outside the traditional environmental movement. At the School of Natural Resources and Environment, she is focusing on Behavior, Education and Communication, a track, which along with her MBA coursework, is giving her the skills and competencies she needs to transform the way people think about climate.
Sander Dolder – Resume

Sander is passionate about understanding effective business strategies that lead to environmental and social stewardship while increasing firm value. Furthermore, he is interested in assessing and measuring corporate environmental impacts and risks to deliver more holistic firm valuations to the financial markets. On his master’s project with Dow, he is using his interests to identify water risks in the beverage industry’ supply chain. During his recent summer internship, Sander executed an environmental assessment at a chemical production facility for energy, water, and waste reductions leading to the development of a standard methodology for future assessments. On campus, his interests are focused on water risk, life cycle analysis, organizational design and entrepreneurial initiatives. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, Sander spent five years working at Ernst & Young and Capgemini in their management consulting practices focusing on organizational change for technology, media and entertainment clients. Having spent half of his life in Switzerland, Sander is fluent in French and German, passionate about hiking and skiing, and stereotypically exerts neutrality. Sander holds a B.S. in Finance and Marketing from Indiana University.

Mary is interested in the strategic financial opportunities associated with sustainable development. As an intern with Ford Motor Company, Mary spent the summer analyzing supply chain sustainability metrics, identifying global trends, and developing strategies to elevate sustainability in purchasing decisions. As part of her master’s project, she is currently working with REI to address toxics in internal operations. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, Mary cut her entrepreneurial teeth managing an independent toy store in the Bay Area and a boutique law firm in downtown Chicago. A testament to her creative side, Mary holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Beloit College.
Richard Grousset – Resume

Rich believes that the long-term viability of our society depends on immediately developing innovative and profitable business strategies targeting zero net environmental and human health impacts. Though his interests in corporate sustainability strategy and entrepreneurial opportunities span most topics and industries, his primary focus is currently on energy and, in particular, making the business case for energy efficiency. Last summer, Rich worked as an Environmental Defense Fund Climate Corps Fellow at Firmenich, Incorporated, a global leader in the B2B flavor and fragrance industry, where he collected energy usage data and built financial models demonstrating the ROI of energy efficiency investments. He is currently working on a master’s project with Recreational Equipment Incorporated (REI) to develop an understanding of the business, human health, and environmental risks associated with chemicals commonly found in retail operations. Prior to enrolling in the Erb Institute MBA/MS dual-degree program at the University of Michigan, Rich earned a B.S. in Communication from Cornell University and a M.A. in Survey Research from the University of Connecticut. Outside of school and work, Rich has penchants for karaoke, craft beer, and skiing anywhere there is good powder even if there are no lifts.
Caitlin Harren – Resume

Caitlin is interested in using market strategies and the principles of industrial ecology to make human systems behave more like natural systems. Faced with shifting market dynamics and mounting environmental concern, Caitlin sees innovative efficiency solutions as the most potential-rich path to improving corporate cost structure while doing right by the natural world. Caitlin spent the summer after her first year working with BSR in San Francisco and traveling to India for work on her master's opus. Caitlin joined the Erb Institute to be at the forefront of the movement generating smarter business solutions based on competitive financial strategy and sound environmental science. Before arriving in Michigan, Caitlin held advisory positions at Innovest Strategic Value Advisors and the Sierra Club. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Government and Environmental Science and Policy at Smith College. She is also an avid mountaineer and river-runner, but is secretly happiest spending hours upon end in the kitchen.
Deb Heed – Resume

Deb is focused on exploring the opportunities at the juncture of corporate and organizational strategy, integrating sustainable initiatives and employee alignment as actuators for positive change. Motivated by her experience living for a year in Heidelberg, Germany, Deb combines practical life experience with her passion for making an impact. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, Deb led several new initiatives for the non-profit Clean Energy Coalition in Ann Arbor. Deb's projects included launching Michigan's first energy and water efficiency store, establishing a purchasing point for energy audit clients, creating and leading Washtenaw County's energy efficiency classes for low-income residents, and winning several grants to support these efforts. Today, Deb is utilizing her certification as a professional coach to also make an impact in the Erb community, serving as a Peer Coach and helping to develop this program for future students.
Grant Hughes – Resume

Grant came to the Erb Institute with the belief that creative and financially feasible solutions can be reached at the intersection of sustainability and business if designed appropriately. With that belief, Grant is focused on people's behaviors and motivations to determine how to incite positively deviant changes in the way people interact with their environment. Functionally, this will occur in a communications, consulting, or internal strategy position. Most recently Grant worked with Public Architecture, the thought leader in pro bono design, to develop a nationwide product reuse network that funnels high design products from Teknion, Interface and the like to pro bono building projects. Prior to deciding to pursue and MBA/MS, Grant spent several years with Teach for America teaching inner city youth in Los Angeles where, within the stiff curriculum, he was able to shoot student-led short films and design and implement environmental behavior change campaigns to green the school site. He has also worked at a large private supply and engineering company as a manager and internal project consultant. Grant holds a BBA in Entrepreneurship and a BA in Liberal Arts from the University of Oklahoma where he graduated summa cum laude as well as an MA in Education from Loyola Marymount. Travel, photography, yoga, running, skiing, reading, writing, and wine sipping are Grant’s go-to recreational outlets.
Elise Hunter

Elise Hunter’s interests lie in creating sustainability strategies for industry sectors, integrating energy efficiency technology, supply chain optimization, lifecycle analyses and sustainability branding. Prior to joining Erb, Elise worked for the Environmental Protection Agency in San Francisco, coordinating recycling efforts of large-scale industrial wastes such as coal fly ash and foundry sand. She then worked for the nonprofit Build It Green, advising local governments in California on creating forward-thinking green building policies and collaborating on a business plan for the City of Berkeley’s clean energy finance program for solar installations. She holds a B.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University. Outside of work and school, Elise runs, cooks, rides her bike and writes short stories.
Jonathan Huynh

Jonathan joined the Erb Institute to focus on corporate social responsibility, sustainable business strategies, and sustainable finance. He believes that businesses have the ability to significantly scale and improve economic, social, and environmental impacts for their stakeholders. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, Jonathan was an Enterprise Risk Senior Consultant at Deloitte and Touche, in which he helped his clients redesign business processes and improve internal controls to mitigate financial risk. In summer 2011, he will be working with Publicis Groupe in Chicago as an EDF Climate Corp Fellow, identifying cost-saving energy efficiency projects for its Leo Burnett North America HQ office. Jonathan received a BA in Business Economics and International Development Studies from UCLA. Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys golf, snowboarding, traveling, trying new foods, and learning new languages.
Raelyn Jacobson – Resume

Classically trained as a French chef, Raelyn enjoys anything that has to do with growing, sourcing, eating, or preparing food. She has a love for the Hospitality Industry but is also drawn to sustainable enterprise, green building, and the allocation of resources in arenas pertaining to emerging markets and consumer goods. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, Raelyn worked in the kitchen of Café X at the corporate headquarters of Facebook. Along with a team of other fabulous cooks, she produced over 2300 locally sourced meals a day to the ever-hungry and ever-growing population of employees. Before working at Facebook, Raelyn spent several years abroad, attending culinary school, exploring various countries, studying conversational Chinese, and trekking across the Mongolian steppe on horseback. When not otherwise occupied by work or school, Raelyn enjoys training in mixed martial arts, refreshing herself on the cello or guitar, writing food articles, and creating new adventures. She can also be found attempting to learn how to run.
Stephanie Judd – Resume

Stephanie is interested in climate strategy in the Retail sector, with a particular focus on operations and supply chain in the apparel industry. She spent her first summer as an EDF Climate Corps Fellow at Belk, a regional department store based in Charlotte, NC, and identified a strategy of energy efficiency project implementation that would result in a 25% reduction in the company's carbon footprint. Stephanie started her career as a technology consultant in the private sector, but has since moved into the non-profit world. She worked in Nicaragua with an organization that set up hybrid wind/solar energy systems for communities that were off the national electricity grid, and most recently worked with the Clinton Foundation to develop an effective data collection and analysis tool to be used by the Ministry of Health in Rwanda. Outside of her work, Stephanie looks for excuses to travel, dance Salsa, rock climb, eat amazing food, and design jewelry for her company, Steffi Jae Designs.
Patrick Lord
MBA/MS Program 2013

Patrick joined the Erb Institute to gain expertise in the intersection of entrepreneurship and sustainable development in emerging markets. He believes thoughtful organizational design can drive industry leadership with environmental and social goals as core values. This summer, Patrick is based in Beijing consulting a Sino-US joint venture in sustainable commercial farming practices. In addition, he is designing a global supply chain, developing a China-based distribution network, and creating an investment package for MCM Agriculture Services USA, LLC. Previously, Patrick launched a distribution and marketing company partnering with Shokay International Group, a social venture producing luxury goods made of Tibetan yak down. He developed business with Bloomingdale’s in New York City and launched a social media campaign reaching over 26,000 people. After earning a B.S. in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles, Patrick spent five years in the commercial real estate sector. At Arbor Realty Trust, he managed portfolio risk, navigated bankruptcies and restructured loans. When not on a conference call to China, he can be found photographing architecture, making dumplings, or snowboarding mountaintops. He is a Fellow of the StartingBloc Institute for Global Social Innovation.
Honore Louie – Resume

After a three year stint at Charles Schwab, Honore decided it was time to try the other side of the fence and go work for a non-profit. He became the lead product manager at WiserEarth.org, a non-profit initiative of Paul Hawken, and has since focused on integrating sustainability and product development into corporate strategy. He currently is a fellow of the Tauber Institute for Global Operations, and will be finishing his dual degree in Sustainable Systems and Business Administration. His interests include rock scrambling, British comedies, and chocolate truffle-making.
Brandon Marshall

Brandon is interested in understanding how things influence one another within complex systems, where synergistic potentials lie, and how processes are made more resilient, adaptive, and sustaining within that context. From ecosystems to energy and transportation infrastructure, from organizational theory and social dynamics to agriculture, his approach has been both applied and academic. Brandon sees the Erb Institute as an opportunity to continue that approach and create positive change, most importantly in his own paradigm. When not pursuing the above endeavors, he practices enjoying everything else.
Elizabeth Matzen

Elizabeth is interested in waste reduction through smart product design and cradle to cradle concepts. Elizabeth is currently working on her master's project with the upcycling company, TerraCycle, and this summer served as a business development intern at the cleantech startup ReGenerate Solutions. Originally from Iowa, Elizabeth holds a BA in Biology and Chemistry from Luther College. Prior to joining the Erb community, Elizabeth exercised her left brain as an research lab scientist at Columbia University. When not in the library, Elizabeth can be found gardening, baking pie, or finding a new running route in Ann Arbor.
Devin McIntire
MBA/MS Program 2013

Devin McIntire has advised, founded and run social ventures in India, Tanzania and the US. He joined the Erb Institute to improve his entrepreneurial acumen and develop a toolkit for identifying and developing systems-based solutions. His masters thesis is focused on identifying and describing "Coordinations"-- a new type of market-based organization at the emerging intersection of peer-production / co-creation and collaborative consumption / sharing economy. He is also the founder of Real Good Food - a new, web-based food exchange for enthusiastic home cooks, which has received awards from the University’s Center For Entrepreneurship and the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. He is currently crowd funding seed capital to launch Real Good Food nationally.
Raphael Meyer – Resume

Raphael (Phel) is passionate about reducing waste and finding new uses for what is currently considered worthless. He is preparing for a career in traditional waste management or sustainable product development. Phel is currently engaged in a master's project with Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), designing a strategy for REI to manage toxic chemicals in its operations. He also promotes sustainability on the uMich campus as a board member of the Student Sustainability Initiative. Phel spent his first summer interning with the non-profit Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in San Francisco, studying opportunities for EDF to diversify the constituents it engages on energy efficiency projects. Prior to joining Erb, Phel helped global corporations streamline their sales processes and improve IT performance as a consultant with Accenture. He also took time off to help grow a volunteer organization working for social and environmental justice in Argentinian Patagonia, among other things. Phel was born in France, grew up in California, graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and, if not with his family and friends, can usually be found cooking, hiking, snowboarding, traveling, or eating chocolate.
Viktor Passinsky – Resume

Viktor is interested in environmental policy and decision-making, particularly with regards to climate change adaptation and water resources management. He is passionate about bringing affordable and accessible renewable energy and clean water technologies to Base of the Pyramid markets. Prior to enrolling in the Erb Institute program, Viktor spent five years working at Accenture in its Communications & High Tech strategy consulting practice, where he specialized in Program and Project Management. Outside of work, Viktor volunteered with a Wilderness Search & Rescue unit in California. Viktor received a B.S. in Computer Science & Engineering from the University of California, San Diego. In his spare time, Viktor enjoys traveling, backpacking, playing sports, and volunteering. He speaks fluent Russian and enjoys immersing himself in foreign cultures.
Gaurang Sethi

“To validly have a seat at the table, you have to bring experience. You cannot just take a seat because you are interested.” Fully believing in this adage, Gaurang is pursuing a career in the energy sector. He is mainly interested in developing a strategic and commercial perspective on energy opportunities whether for investors, aggregators, developers or operators. Being interested in energy even during his mechanical engineering days, he interned with TERI India, an energy consulting company. Then he joined Vestas, the wind energy major, as an Engineer-Sales Support and later transitioned to Marketing/Sales & Business Development, during which he developed a strong insight into the needs of Independent Power Producers and such other large investors in energy projects. He enjoys trekking, esp. in the Himalayas and in his spare time likes listening to music and watching bollywood movies.
Ira Shaughnessy

Ira joins the Erb Community with specific interest in Sustainability Strategy and International Development. Serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Ghana, Ira saw first hand how appropriately allocated time and funding can create significant environmental and social impact. Ira hopes to utilize his field experience and Erb education in bringing sustainable development to Base of the Pyramid markets. Ira graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Psychology before working for two years as an IT Recruiter in San Francisco. Immediately before coming to Michigan, Ira traveled eastward around the world, volunteering and surfing poorly along the way.
Cynthia Shih – Resume

Cynthia joined the Erb Institute to help foster enduring change in both institutions and individual behavior. Her primary topical interests are food systems, energy efficiency and climate change adaptation. In summer 2011, she worked as an EDF Climate Corps fellow at Facebook, identifying cost-saving energy efficiency projects for the company's new 1 million sq ft corporate campus. In 2012 she will be a summer associate at McKinsey's Detroit office. She serves as co-president of the Revitalization & Business Initiative at Ross and on the Erb Peer Coaching leadership team; she also serves on the Board of Directors at the People's Food Co-op of Ann Arbor, with the goal of increasing local food retail and sustainable agriculture awareness on campus. Prior to graduate school, she launched a music career as a recording artist under the name Vienna Teng, releasing four studio albums and touring throughout North America and Europe (highlights include appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman and NPR's Weekend Edition). She remains active as a composer and performing musician. Cynthia has also worked as a software engineer at Cisco Systems, and holds a BS in Computer Science from Stanford University.
Rachel Smeak – Resume

Rachel is interested in sustainable food systems and water resources management. Most recently, Rachel interned with The Nature Conservancy and Three Rivers Alliance, a group of cattle ranchers, to conduct a feasibility study to develop a branded beef business with environmental attributes. There she gained experience working across the beef value chain. For her masters project, she is working with REI to develop a chemicals management strategy for its retail operations. During her studies, she has also conducted projects with Whole Foods Market Detroit and Recovery Park, an urban farm in Detroit. Prior to her graduate studies, Rachel worked as a strategy consultant at Deloitte Consulting, gaining extensive experience in strategic planning, organizational change, process redesign, and business case development. At Deloitte, she had the opportunity to work with Deloitte's newly forming Sustainability & Climate Change practice and work on a pro-bono engagement with the United Nations Global Compact to develop robust tools to support the compact's signatory organizations. Rachel graduated with distinction from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University with majors in Finance and Business Law. Outside of school, she enjoys camping, visiting national and state parks, and craft beer.
Cameron Smith – Resume

Cam is interested in the global innovation and commercialization of technologies to enable sustainability of products across the value chain. He comes from a background rich in sustainable enterprise and social ventures with experience at the corporate and startup level. As Assistant Marketing Manager for Sustainability at Wal-Mart, Cam helped develop Wal-Mart's fundamental strategy for marketing sustainability. His work culminated with the $20 million Earth Month '08 campaign, Wal-Mart's first fully integrated, national campaign centered on sustainability. After Wal-Mart, Cam spent two years with Baycor Fiber and ClearStream Energy, clean tech startups focused on recycling manufacturing waste into biofuel. Cam served as Business Development Manager for Baycor and VP of Business Development for ClearStream Energy. Cam has also worked in CSR at Cisco where he led Workforce Retraining, a social venture project to help Michigan autoworkers retrain for high-paying, high-demand jobs in information technology. In his spare time, Cam loves backpacking, skiing, travelling, and hanging out with his beautiful wife and daughter. He has spent 5 years in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China and speaks fluent Mandarin.
Miguel Sossa-Mardomingo – Resume

Miguel believes deeply in leveraging his Erb education to restore the vitality of traditionally underserved communities within cities around the world. Specifically, Miguel seeks to partner with corporations and governments to create innovative strategies that promote access to equitable and sustainably-focused development and jobs for all. With those values in mind, he pursued the Oregon Sustainability Fellowship this summer with the Portland-based Metro Regional Government. There he developed community engagement and equity strategies that increased the ability for underserved communities to vocalize their needs for Metro's 2040 Regional Plan. Miguel is also actively involved with the revitalization of downtown Detroit, and is currently completing a community empowerment master's project via recycled-waste collection in Indonesia.
Michael Wohl
MBA/MS Program 2013

Michael is interested in renewable technologies, environmental markets, corporate strategy, and policy issues. He has a particular interest in how sustainability and policy issues interact and can be aligned with business interests. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, Michael was an independent consultant within the geothermal industry. He also spent five years at JPMorgan Chase, with a focus on energy and alternative energy companies in its Proprietary Equities group and its Credit Portfolio group. He received a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia and is a CFA charterholder. In his free time, Michael is an avid skier, aspiring poker champion, sports fan, and enjoys traveling.

Kevin is interested in strategy, operations, and sustainable development. Prior to joining Erb, Kevin worked as an Army Engineer. As an engineer, Kevin managed construction projects and engineer operations focused on providing essential life-support services such as water and electricity in war-torn areas. Outside of school, Kevin loves running, skiing, and spending time outdoors.
David Yang
MBA/MS Program 2013

David is interested in the in the confluence of sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and corporate strategy. Last summer, David was a Climate Corps Fellow with the Environmental Defense Fund and worked with a leading professional services firm to analyze their carbon footprint and provide recommendations for improvement at the operations level. Prior to joining the Erb Institute, David pursued a career in strategy consulting. At IBM Global Business Services, his project work included exploring investment opportunities in emerging markets and providing input into the development of a client-facing CSR consulting practice. After IBM, he was involved with a management consulting startup and most recently worked with Ford Motor Company in the digital marketing space. David graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan and holds a BA with Honors in Psychology and Communication Studies. He speaks fluent Cantonese and enjoys traveling, kayaking, and cooking.
